President Ram Baran Yadav has announced promulgation of new constitution amidst a special ceremony at Constituent Assembly (CA) hall on Saturday evening. Before announcing the enactment of the much-awaited constitution, the head of the state signed five copies of the constitution.
The CA hall was abuzz with applauses as president Yadav announced new statute.
Addressing on the historic occasion, President Yadav remarked that he concept of ‘people as the sovereign’ has been established through this constitution, adding that republicanism has been institutionalized.
He further called for unity and cooperation of all at this historic moment.
The general public welcomed the new constitution by organizing rallies and mass assemblies in several districts. Nepal for the first time has a constitution written by elected representatives.
Celebrations witnessed an overwhelming participation of locals, political activists and the business community among others.
The promulgation of new constitution has turned 65-year old aspiration of drafting a new constitution through an elected assembly into a reality.
The Constituent Assembly is transformed into Parliament till the next general election as per the provisions of the new constitution.
Travel professionals have expressed happiness over the endorsement of the new constitution by the Constituent Assembly hoping that the new constitution would contribute to achieve political stability and create investment friendly climate in socio-economic sectors including tourism.
