Overview

Mustang lies in the western part and particularly the origin of Tibet. Hidden at the back of huge peaks Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Mustang was out-of-the-way or completely restricted region for the trekkers until 1991. 

Mustang Trekking way embraces treeless deserted scenery, vertical rocky path ascending and descending the hill and eye-catching views of Annapurna, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tilicho peak, Tukche peak, Mustang Himal, and many other giant peaks. Mustang region is considered to be a restricted area where a special trekking permit is obligatory through a registered trekking Agency.

We, Nepal Tibet Tours & Treks has been arranging special Trekking permits of Mustang and all necessary arrangements for Mustang Jeep Tour 2024.

People from Mustang region are very religious. They have very rich culture.Very popular festival called Teji festival has been celebrating in Mustang every year. Mostly Teji festival is in the month of May.

New date is published for Mustang Tiji Festival for 2024. People of Mustang and Lo-manthang celebrating Teiji festival on 5th May - 7th May - 2025. So many tourists are very much interested to see Teji festival in Mustang and they plan as per festival schedule every year. Since it is one of interesting culture in Mustang. The people settling in Mustang region are known as Lo and they settle at the end of Kaligandaki. Mustang is also an antique Himalayan Kingdom with several largest Tibetan Buddhist Gompas. 

Upon our arrival in Jomsom the doorway to Mustang Jeep Tour, we begin trekking crossing few striking villages and high passes, observe the standard of living of the selters, experience the deepest gorge in the world on the way.The arresting peaks and frequently changing scenery, white rinsed walls of Lo Mangthang adds charm to Mustang.

We, Nepal Tibet Tours & Treks has been arranging Mustang Jeep Tour for those who wish to experience the Himalayan way of life and look at the unaffected and distinctive traditions of the Nepali Tibetan local people there. Trip to Mustang region was entirely camping trekking in the past years. However, Mustang Tour can organize Jeep Tour these days. Tiji Festival is full of Tourist and need to book in advance to secure the seats, so hurry up too book it on time for 2024.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: [29th April] Arrived at Kathmandu (1400m.)

Meet and greet at the airport then transfer to Hotel. Overnight Hotel.

Day 2: [30th April] Kathmandu

Free day on your own and we make special trekking permit for Upper Mustang, Annapurna Conservation Area Project entry permit and necessary arrangement Mustang Trip. Overnight Hotel.

Day 3: [1st May] Fly to Pokhara

Fly to Pokhara (Half an hour flight). Free afternoon rest / preparation. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 4: [2nd May] Drive Pokhara to Kalopani

After Breakfast 2hrs drive to Kusma, 1 hr leisure near bridge over kaligandaki (2hrs can be spent), then 2 hrs drive to Glaeswor (Lunch) then 2 hrs drive to Kalopani.100 KM blacktop road and 60 KM off road. On the way one can spend good time in Kusma suspension bridge, adventure activities, Galeswor, Tatopani hot spring, beautiful Rupese water fall. Overnight at Guesthouse.

Day 5: [3rd May] Drive Kalopani to Kagbeni (2840m)

After Breakfast one hr drive to Marpha.1/2 an hr drive to Jomsom, 1 hr drive from Jomsom to Kagbeni. 1/2 an hr drive from Kagbeni to Muktinath. One can spend sightseeing around 1 to 2 hr at Marpha, 1/2 an hr around Jomsom, 1-2hr Kagbeni and 2-3hrs Muktinath. Overnight at Guesthouse.

Day 6: [4th May] Kagbeni – Tsrang (3570m)

After official formalities of Special permit we drive to Tsarang from Kagbeni (all 4WD way). On the way good view of Samar vir, visit chunsi Cave etc. Today we might spend the night at Shyanbochen too, this is as per situation. Overnight at Guesthouse.

Day 7: [5th May] Tsrang – Lo-Manthang (3840m) (Tiji Festival start)

1.5 hours drive to Lo-Manthang from Tsarang then after lunch participate in the first day of Tiji Festival-2023. Overnight at Guesthouse.

Day 8: [6th May] Lo-Manthang (Tiji Festival)

Exploration of cave and monastery in morning and afternoon witness the stunning mask dances performed by monks in Tenji Festival Lo-Manthang 3840m. Overnight at Lodge

Day 9: [7th May] Lo-Manthang – Marpha (2743m)

Drive back to Charang about about 1 hr drive (2hrs can be spent), then to 2hrs drive to Syanbochen for Lunch. After Lunch 2-3 hrs drive to Kagbeni then 1/2 an hr drive to Jomsom then 1/2 an hr drive to Marpha ( Lo-Manthang to Marpha. 6-7 hours) drive. Overnight at Guesthouse.

Day 10: [8th May] Drive to Tatopani, 6-7 Hours Drive.

In the morning exlplore beautiful Marpha. Drive about 3-4hrs to Tatopani.Overnight at Guesthouse.

Day 11: [9th May] Drive back to Pokhara.

After Breakfst drive to Kande about 3hrs, then one more hr to Sarangkot. Look arround beautiful Sarangkot, you may have Lunch there or about more or less one more hr drive to beautiful Lake city Pokhara then have Lunch and rest, relaxe.Overnight at Hotel.

Day 12: [10th May] extra day at Pokhara for hang around.

Sightseeing around Pokhara. Overnight Hotel.

Day 13: [11th May] Drive or fly back to Kathmandu,

After Breakfast drive or fly back to Kathmandu.Overnight at Hotel.

Day 14: [12th May] Kathmandu

One extra day in Kathmandu for shopping or rest before taking long flight home. Overnight Hotel.

Day 15: [13th May] Departure

Transfer to Airport for final departure.

Clothing and Equipments

Certain basic trekking equipment is essential on all routes we described in this site. Depending on the area and season, we will provide you with a comprehensive list of necessities. Here is some recommended Equipments List for trekking in Nepal.

Clothing

1. Boots

Lightweight walking boots. If new one is being bought, “walk then in” to avoid blisters. Also bring spare laces.

2. Track shoes

A pair of track shoes. To wear in the camp at night or when the boot is wet.

3. Jacket

Warm jacket. Fiber fills or down should be adequate. This is especially necessary during winter from December to February. A rainproof jacket with hood or a poncho. Get the one that is guaranteed waterproof.

4. Shirt and Sweaters

Woolen shirts and thick sweaters. During winter months, December through February these items are essential. Thick sweaters can be purchased in Kathmandu. 1 lightweight long sleeved -shirt is particularly suitable for avoiding sun burn.

5. Trousers

A pair of lightweight/ heavy weight trousers. Jeans are unsuitable to wear on treks. Cheap loose cotton pants are available in Kathmandu. Heavyweight trousers are useful higher up in the mountains in the morning and at night. Windproof/ waterproof trousers are necessary on all treks going above 10.00ft.

6. Underwear

Thermal underwear. These are excellent to sleep in at night in the winter months thermal underwear are quite invaluable.

7. Tracksuit

A tracksuit useful for wearing in camp and in the tent. 2 pair of loose fitting long shorts/ skirts.

8. Sleeping Bag

As you do not carry it yourself this may be synthetic or down, but it must be 4 season. As most treks pass through a variety of climatic conditions, a long zip is a good idea. A cotton/fleece liner helps keep your sleeping bag clean. Good sleeping bags are expensive but can be rented easily in Kathmandu (Only for treks starting and finishing there)

9. Sun Hat, SunCream/Block & Lip Salve

Choose a high factor suncream (Factor 20 or stronger) to protect your skin against the sun at high altitude. A combination sunblock/lip salve is ideal for facial protection.

10. Personal First Aid Kit

You should have your own supply of plasters, aspirin, diarrhea tablets and also a comprehensive blister kit. (Please do not give medicines to local people without consulting the trek leader.)

11. Hat/ Glove/ Sandle/ Shocks/ Underwear

a) A woolen hat to wear in the morning and at night. During winter it is an essential item.
b) A sunhat and ensure it has a wide brim to cover the face and neck.
b) A pair of gloves. Leather with lining and woolen are best. c) 1 pair of sandals to wear in the cities and in camp.
d) 4 pairs of thin and 4 pair of thick woolen socks.
e) Underwear” normal quantity and swimming costume, hankies.

Equipments and Accessories

a) Duffle bag or kit bag to carry to gear while trekking
b) Daypack: This is a small rucksack to carry personal requirement for the day e.g. toilet items, camera, film towel, soap, a boot etc.
c) Water bottle.
d) Snow glasses and sunglasses
e) 2-4 large plastic bags to separate clean clothes from dirty ones.
f) 6 -10 smaller plastic bags to dispose garbage.
g) Wallet and /or money belt with compartment for coins.
h) Toiletries with large and small towels. Toilet paper can buy in Kathmandu and some villages in the mountains.
i) Small headlamp and/ or torch with spare batteries and bulbs
j) candles and lighter to burn toilet paper.
k) Snow gaiters essential during wither and all treks going over at other times.
l) An umbrella (optional), which is quite useful to as a sunshade and useful when it rains.
m) Reading materials, camera and film, game items (optional), note book, rubber band, pen and pencil, envelopes, a diary, a calendar, a pocket knife, binoculars (optional), a small pillow or headrest (optional).
