Overview

Mt. Everest is an aspiration for people to trek in the Himalayas. Gokyo lake is an isolated beauty in the Everest region that has equally amazing adventures to offer as any other trek in the Everest trek.

The Everest-Gokyo Lake Trekking region features the incredibly beautiful Gokyo Valley. From here, you can experience the incredible beauty of the snow capped peaks like Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Cho Oyu (8153 m), Makalu (8,475 m), Gyachung Kang (7,922 m) and Lhotse (8,511 m).

Many people sadly miss the Gokyo Lake region because they want to get directly to Everest Base Camp. But you do not get to see the roof of the world without all of the tourists unless you are in Gokyo. In this trek, you will go through the beautiful Sherpa Villages, pass the incredible glaciers and finally reach the breathtakingly beautiful Gokyo Valley.

Gokyo Lake is a sacred lake, with the white snow capped peaks reflecting in its calm blue surface. There are hidden monasteries along the way, and you will definitely not be disappointed in what your eyes will witness. No other place on Earth will reveal as many of the 8,000m plus peaks as in this region.

While the tour is a total of 16 days, there will be 12 days of actual trekking. We also assign three rest days in order to allow you acclimatisation at high elevations. One of the days will be a climb to Mt. Gokyo-Ri (elev. 5483 m) for the most impressive views of Mt. Everest and the surrounding peaks of the Himalayas.

Gokyo-Ri is considered to be a “trekking peak” and has a comparatively less travelled trail. No special equipment is required to climb this peak. The view from the top is an undefeatable beauty and it should be an inspiration for you if you plan to take on this challenging trek. Only factor to be considered for this trek is your physical condition and obviously your passion

It will be a trek concerning high altitudes but you can trust Nepal Tibet Tours and Treks as we do not compromise on your safety and comfortability. Make sure to talk to your representative at Nepal Tibet Tours and Treks about this incredible trip. Our experienced and qualified guides will assist you on your excellent adventure.

Clothing and Equipments

Certain basic trekking equipment are essential on all the routes that we have described in this site. Depending on the area and season, we will provide you with a comprehensive list of necessities. Here is the list of some recommended equipment required for trekking in Nepal.

CLOTHINGS :

1. Boots

Lightweight walking boots; If it is brand new, “walk them in” to avoid blisters. Also bring spare laces.

2. Track shoes

A pair of track shoes; To wear in the camp or when the boot is wet.

3. Jacket

A warm jacket; Fibre fills or down should be adequate. This is essential during winter from December to February. A rainproof jacket with hood or a poncho. Get the one that is guaranteed waterproof.

4. Shirt and Sweaters

Woollen shirts and thick sweaters; these are essential during the winter season (December to February). Thick sweaters can be purchased in Kathmandu. A lightweight long sleeved t-shirt is suitable for avoiding sunburn.

5. Trousers

A pair of trousers; Jeans are not suitable to wear on treks. Cheap, loose, cotton pants are available in Kathmandu. Heavyweight trousers are useful higher up in the mountains in the morning and at night. Windproof or waterproof trousers are required on all treks going above 10.0 ft.

6. Tracksuit

A tracksuit is comfortable to wear in camp and in the tent. You want to add at least two pairs of loose fitting long shorts or skirts.

7. Underclothes

Thermal underwear is the best for sleeping during the winter.

8. Sun Hat, SunCream/Block & Lip Salve

Choose a high factor sun cream (Factor 20 or stronger) to protect your skin against the sun at high altitude. A combination sunblock/lip salve is ideal for facial protection.  A sunhat having a wide brim should be used which covers your face and neck.  A woollen hat is a must during winter.

9. Glove/ Sandal/ Socks

A pair of gloves; Leather with lining and woollen are best, 1 pair of sandals to wear in the cities and in the camp and about 4 pairs of thin and 4 pairs of thick woollen socks are required accordingly.

10. Sleeping Bag

As you do not carry sleeping bags yourself, this can be either synthetic or down but it is a must for all 4 seasons. As most treks pass through a variety of climatic conditions, a long zip is a good idea. A cotton/fleece liner helps keep your sleeping bag clean. Good sleeping bags are expensive but can be rented easily in Kathmandu (Only for treks starting and finishing there.)

You should have your own supply of plasters, aspirin, diarrhoea tablets and also a comprehensive blister kit. (Please do not give medicines to local people without consulting the trek leader.)
